Handmade and acid-free paper, made up of elephant dung and recycled paper.

Country of origin: Sri Lanka

Notebooks are where good ideas begin.

Mr Ellie Pooh, a Fair Trade Federation member, provides sustainable papermaking and artisan jobs in the Kegalle district of Sri Lanka. All their paper products are 100% recycled, made up of 30% fiber from elephant dung and 70% recycled paper. No trees or toxic chemicals are used, only all-natural vegetative binding agents and water-soluble salt dyes for coloring. This unique method of papermaking directly contributes to the local economy, where villagers are trained to make paper and artisans are hired to create products. They are educated about living among elephants in an area where humans and elephants often conflict, so that elephants are viewed as an economic asset, rather than a liability. These jobs help build support of the local communities and are essential to the success of conservation efforts. Most of the artisans live local to the factory, and can conveniently walk to work. Artisans have the freedom of expressing their creativity while earning an income, and can also work from home.

Largesse curates beautifully presented environmentally-friendly, artisan-made and fairly traded corporate gifts.
