Itza Wood was founded in the Peten Jungle, the largest remaining tropical forest of Central America. Before touching a single tree, Itza's reforestation project had planted 45,000 trees in the heart of the jungle, their way of deepening their commitment to one of nature’s most beautiful treasures. Their mission is to break the cycle of poverty in the Peten region of Guatemala and by providing education and employment opportunities to local residents, they celebrate traditions while empowering and creating a better future for the people.
Itza works with community organized and FSC certified lumber yards and purchase woods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. To ensure durability, the tropical woods are kiln-dried, de-stressing them to prevent warping and changes, and the lumber is then transformed by a talented team of carvers, carpenters, and craftspeople.
